Wattled Brushturkey

Aepypodius arfakianus

Least Concern

The Wattled Brushturkey is a forest megapode of New Guinea and nearby islands, especially steep lowland and montane forests. It is dark-bodied with striking bare facial skin and wattles, and is usually secretive on the forest floor. Fun fact: Megapodes use environmental heat rather than body heat to incubate their eggs.
