West Mexican Chachalaca

Ortalis poliocephala

Least Concern

The West Mexican Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of Pacific-slope woodland of western Mexico. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. It remains comparatively widespread, but healthy forest and woodland still matter for keeping local populations secure.
