White-bellied Chachalaca

Ortalis leucogastra

Least Concern

The White-bellied Chachalaca is a noisy, social cracid of Pacific-slope dry forest and scrub from southern Mexico through Central America. It moves through thickets, forest edges, and trees in pairs or small groups, feeding mainly on fruit, flowers, leaves, and other plant material. It remains comparatively widespread, but healthy forest and woodland still matter for keeping local populations secure.
